Browlift

A brow lift by Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Michael Warner can correct furrowed brows, frown lines and pronounced facial wrinkles in the upper third of the face. Brow lifts are performed by Dr. Warner at his practice's Arlington, Fort Worth and Weatherford locations. Dr. Warner has provided brow lifts for his patients for more than 10 years. Your brow lift will be performed personally by Dr. Warner in the comfort of our on-site surgical suite. A smooth brow looks more youthful and complements your overall appearance. Many of Dr. Warner's patients elect for brow lift surgery with other facial cosmetic procedures performed at the same time.

Dr. Warner can perform your brow lift surgery in just two appointments. At your first appointment, he will discuss your wrinkles, the goal you want to achieve, answer your questions, and discuss pre-operative instructions. Dr. Warner will perform your surgery on your second visit.

About Brow Lifts

Definition. A browlift is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which the eyebrows and the forehead are elevated.

The first facial wrinkles to develop are horizontal furrows in the forehead caused by contraction of the underlying Frontalis muscle. Next come frown lines, the vertical lines between the eyebrows. They can cause their owner to look overly serious, stern, worried, or even angry, when in actual fact they feel fine. Worry lines are also unwelcome. These run horizontally and are reinforced when their owner frowns, looks up, raises their eyebrows, or shows a look of surprise or concern. Most women subconsciously tend to raise their eyebrows more, to achieve an open-eyed look, which draws even more attention to this unflattering feature.

Forehead wrinkles usually appear by the late 20s and are soon accompanied by a sagging of the upper brow and lids. A forehead lift or browlift is a one- to two-hour outpatient procedure effecting the upper third of the face, smoothing out wrinkles, correcting drooping brows and heavy lids, and providing a younger, friendlier appearance. A browlift can be performed alone or with other cosmetic procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or laser skin resurfacing.

Candidates. Today nearly onethird of all those seeking facial rejuvenation surgery are between 30 and 50 years old. Candidates must be in good general health. The health of the skin is also taken into consideration. If you smoke, your doctor will probably ask you to stop for several months before and after having surgery. The chemicals in smoke hasten collagen breakdown, leaving your skin badly lined and robbing your body of oxygen it needs for healing.

Causes:
• Aging and gravity
• Exposure to sun and wind
• Heredity
• Tobacco and alcohol use
• Facial expression habits
Outcome:
• Increased self-confidence
• Improved self-esteem
• Younger, friendlier appearance
• Improved field of vision
• Relief of fatigue in upper brow

Moisturized skin that has been protected from the sun responds best to a browlift. Your doctor will asses your candidacy for this procedure.

How Will I Look? If you are considering a forehead lift, and would like to have an idea what you may look like, try this; while in front of a mirror, place your index fingers above your eyebrows near the outside edges of your eyes and gently pull the skin upwards. You will actually feel the relief of pressure from your upper brow and see the results.

Classic Browlift. A traditional browlift is performed as an outpatient procedure, either in the physician's surgical suite or at the hospital, under local anesthesia together with a sedative to make you drowsy. The hair is tied back with rubber bands in front of and behind the incision area. The incision is usually made across the top of the head just behind the hair line. The forehead skin is gently lifted, and portions of facial muscle and excess skin are removed. The muscle responsible for much of the furrowing is smoothed and the brow is moved just above the bony rim, leaving the capability for expression intact. Care is taken to hide all incision lines.

Endoscopic Method. Endoscopic surgery leaves no visible scarring by making small incisions in the hair-bearing area. An endoscope is a long thin tube with a video camera attached which is inserted through a small incision with special tools. The surgeon is able to free up tissue, reposition it, and perform the surgery through the small scope. While there are fewer incisions with the endoscopic method, it may not always change the position of the hairline as effectively as the classic method.

Recovery. You should arrange for a loved one to drive you home to rest following surgery for two days. During this time you may experience minimal pain controlled with oral medication. Patients will experience swelling around the eyes and forehead. Your surgeon will remove your bandages a day or two after surgery. After this, you may shower and wash your hair. By the third day, you may walk as far as you would like, and you may return to work or school within four to five days. Strenuous activity, which raises blood pressure and encourages bleeding in the treated area, should be avoided for the first three weeks. Within two weeks, most patients are comfortable in social settings (with make-up) and feel completely normal within three months.
